Here’s what’s happening locally this month in Washtenaw County: openings, closings, and business updates in Ann Arbor, Saline, Chelsea, Dexter, Ypsilanti, Milan and more.

319 S. Main St., Ann Arbor. 

Opening their first Ann Arbor location, they are a storefront that buys, sells, trades movies, music, books, and games. 

Thrivery (previously called, Thrive Juicery)
777 E Eisenhower Ann Arbor

They opened their second location at 777 E Eisenhower in Ann Arbor (the original location is at 2420 E. Stadium Blvd Ann Arbor).  Thrivery offers never pasteurized cold pressed juices, smoothies, and clean eats.

 

Kura Sushi
26425 Novi Road, Suite C, Novi, MI 48375

Kura Sushi opened its second Michigan location in Novi this summer (the first is in Troy). They offer food served from touchpads and a revolving bar. 

Maniacal Mead
1497 Ecorse Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48198 

The Mead company has been in business for years, but opened its tasting room in Ypsilanti. Tasting Room Hours are: Wednesday – Saturday 5pm – 10pm & Sunday 2pm – 7pm

 

 Sartorius Center of Excellence
3874 Research Park Drive, Ann Arbor

Sartorius is a biopharmaceutical facility working on life science research and breaks ground on 130k sq-ft office and laboratory space in Ann Arbor on June 23. This brings in 160 new jobs to the area.  

Mix Studios

306 N. River St. Ypsilanti & the annex studio located at 511 W. Cross St. Ypsilanti

The Mix Studios is opening it’s second location in Ypsilanti. They offer In Person and Online Personal Training and Small Group training. Online classes can be done anywhere and the In Person classes are small and sometimes outside.  Classes range from Strength Training to Yoga to Bounce Trampoline Cardio and more. 

Closings

24th Cheesecakerie 

Closing its Ypsilanti location but will keep its Ann Arbor location (at Briarwood Mall), its Madison Heights location, and will open a new location at Franklin Park Mall in Toledo, Ohio.

Worth Noting

Applebees is reopening
located at 1005 W Eisenhower Pkwy., Ann Arbor 

Owned by TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), Mark Schostak said, “We are excited to reopen one of our most established Applebee’s restaurant locations on Eisenhower Parkway,” said Schostak. “With the restaurant in close proximity to the University of Michigan campus, we’re looking forward to delighting our guests and reconnecting with this neighborhood of the Ann Arbor community.”

 

Cannelle (previously knows at The Great Commoner)
110 E. Washington St. in Ann Arbor

Although the façade sign is still on its way, The Great Commoner, has been renamed Cannelle. The Ann Arbor pastry shop now has a refreshed menu and a new name after a change in concept.  They serve up a variety of coffees, sandwiches and French pastries.

With new legislation signed by Governor Whitmer, Michigan pools can now offer poolside alcoholic service. “With some common-sense protections in place, Michigan resorts can accommodate swim-up bars and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for tourists,” Michigan State Rep, Rodney Wakeman said in a press release. “Our reforms will allow local businesses the opportunity to fill a void in the Michigan tourism industry that hotels and attractions in many other states are offering.”
