Miss Kim to host dinner for a cause
Miss Kim will host a special collaboration dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 6, bringing together chefs from across Metro Detroit to raise funds for the Southern Smoke Foundation. The evening will feature chefs Ji Hye Kim, Hamissi Mamba, Nadia Nijimbere, Rohani Foulkes, Ederique Goudia, Joe VanWagner and Bob Bennett. Marrow Detroit Provisions will provide sustainably sourced Michigan meat for the dinner. Tickets are $145, with all proceeds benefiting Southern Smoke Foundation. The dinner begins at 7 p.m.

Come together as a community this fall
Celebrate community at the Ypsi Co-op Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 1-5 p.m. The free event will feature a potluck, entertainment, activities, crafts and opportunities to connect with neighbors. Guests can stay for the afternoon or stop by for a snack and conversation. This year’s festival will also include the Interdependence Relay, a year-long series of community gatherings taking place in all 50 states.

History, food and cookbooks at Zingerman’s Roadhouse
Zingerman’s Roadhouse will host author and historian Nora Rubel on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. for a conversation about Jewish foodways and American history. Presented with the EMU Center for Jewish Studies, Rubel will discuss her new book, “Recipes for the Melting Pot: The Lives of The Settlement Cook Book,” with Zingerman’s co-founder Ari Weinzweig. The book explores the history of “The Settlement Cook Book.” The evening will include appetizers, including a dish featured in Rubel’s book. Tickets are $45.
