January 2023’s Biz Buzz

Here’s what’s happening locally this month in Washtenaw County: openings, closings, and business updates in Ann Arbor, Saline, Chelsea, Dexter, Ypsilanti, Milan and more.

Openings

Basil Babe will open at the old Hamburger Mary building at 701 W Cross St, Ypsilanti. Before their brick-and-mortar, they were a pop-up serving Thai food and dumplings. 

The People’s Food Co-op at 216 N. Fourth Ave. has reopened their hot food bar which had been closed since the pandemic. 

Floor and Decor has opened at 4110 Carpenter Rd, Ypsilanti. This is their third Michigan location selling hard-surface flooring. 

Closings 

Materials Unlimited has closed after 50 years at 2 West Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti. A new music venue will take its place, however, it has not been named yet. 

Worth Noting

Trinity Health Michigan will break ground in early 2023 with a new hospital at its existing medical center in Brighton at 7575 Grand River Ave.  This is expected to open in 2025 and will provide services in Primary Care, General Medicine, Gynecological Surgery, Urology, Cardiology & Intensive Cardiac Rehab, Orthopedics, Minimally Invasive General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery and Oncology.

The Ann Arbor VA announced that an independent women’s clinic will be part of a $6.5 million dollar renovation to the VA hospital.

The University of Michigan’s Ypsilanti Health Center is relocating and expanding services at 300 W. Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti. They have yet to announce the opening date.
