Here’s what’s happening locally this month in Washtenaw County: openings, closings, and business updates in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Plymouth and more.

Closing

Ginger Deli has closed its storefront after five years. In their social media post, they share that “it’s time to turn a new chapter” and that it is “not a forever goodbye.”

House of Chimney Cakes Café will be closing at 216 S. Fourth Ave. They originally opened downtown Ann Arbor in August 2024, selling a variety of desserts.

Blue Whale Cafe has closed at 2420 E. Stadium Blvd. in Ann Arbor. The business, known for its raw cold-pressed juice and sweet and savory menu options, opened up shop in 2023. The previous owners were Thrive Juicery and The Thrivery.

Tios, a downtown Mexican restaurant, has closed at 401 E Liberty St, Ann Arbor. Tios was featured on Man v. Food for its Mount Nacheesmo. 

Opening

Ann Arbor Funhouse is a a new concert venue inside Slows Bar BQ at 207 East Washington Street in downtown Ann Arbor. On June 5, Violet Daybed will perform as the first live band in the space.

Shibam Coffee Co. will be having a soft opening in June at 414 S. Main St., in Ann Arbor. This is the newest Yemeni coffee shop in Ann Arbor. There are 15 other locations of this coffee shop throughout the country.

Orijin Bakery, owned by the same restaurant group as Sava’s, Aventura and The Dixboro Project will open at 617 E. Liberty St. This downtown bakery, opening this summer, will serve pastries from The Boro, located at 5400 Plymouth Road.

Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors has opened at 305 E. Eisenhower Pkwy, Suite 200, Ann Arbor.
