Here’s what’s happening locally this month in Washtenaw County: openings, closings, and business updates in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Plymouth and more.

Coming soon

JD’s Stage Bistro is a new restaurant, co-founded by actor Jeff Daniels, that is coming to Chelsea at 117-1/2 South Main Street. This new music venue, bistro and event space is expected to open its doors to the community in the spring of 2026.

Galy’s is set to open early next spring at 20 N. Washington St. This will be a West African restaurant run by chef Bangaly Kaba. It will fill the vacancy left by Crawdaddy’s Creole this summer.

BrightWorks Coworking will be opening a new location on the second floor of 255 E. Liberty St. This will be Ann Arbor’s third Brightworks Coworking location and will open in February.

Chop Detroit is opening a new location in Ann Arbor at 2121 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor. There are several locations throughout Michigan. This new sports bar will be located in the Biggby Coffee Ice Cube.

Closing

Value City Furniture will be closing its Ann Arbor location, at 425 E Eisenhower Pkwy. This closure is joined by the closing of Novi and Lansing.

Changes

Greenhills School will be expanding by absorbing Summers-Knoll School campus, which will soon be known as Greenhills’ lower school. This transition will take place during the 2025-2026 school year.

Frita Batidos has expanded to New York City! This popular Cuban-inspired eatery has been in Ann Arbor since 2010 and later opened a second location in Detroit in 2019. Their NYC location is their first restaurant outside of Michigan.

West End Grill will be closing temporarily for remodeling. This restaurant has been in Ann Arbor for 30 years. According to their Nov. 2 post, “At the end of this year, we will be closing our doors temporarily for a remodel. A transformation that will carry our legacy forward into the next 30 years of dining in Ann Arbor.”
