Autumn is approaching. I’ve already experienced a couple cooler evenings while out and about, where I regretted not bringing a cozy flannel and hot beverage. Michigan is the perfect state to live in for fall activities, be it apple picking or carving pumpkins or enjoying bonfires with friends. And guess what? You can enjoy many of your favorite fall traditions while enjoying cannabis too!
Read on for some of our fall suggestions, from enjoying an infused pumpkin spice latte, to carving cannabis-themed jack-o’-lanterns, to Ann Arbor weed-safe routes to enjoy fall foliage.
Making your favorite fall drink infused.
This one’s nice and simple. You can make your fall drink at home, or pick one up from your local coffee shop and bring it back to your house. Use a tincture (like one of these from Winewood Organics) and add a measured dose to your drink. Stir your beverage thoroughly so the tincture gets mixed in evenly.
Lolling amongst leaf piles.
If you don’t have a yard, find a friend who does–I am sure they will appreciate help raking! While you’re raking, remove any uncomfortable debris like sticks. When you’re finished, enjoy lounging in the leaf pile while getting high (if the backyard is private–if not, venture inside with your friend for an edible or a smoke and then pop back out). Being in nature is a classic way to enjoy being high, and being in a leaf pile is immersive, nostalgic and tactile.

Upgrade your fall movie night.
Cooler evenings are the perfect time to throw a movie night. Consider enhancing your popcorn with cannabutter, or enjoying a cannabis mocktail.
Go apple picking while high.
There’s nothing more quintessentially autumnal than going apple picking-and you can totally do it while enjoying a buzz, with a little prep work.
Check below for a more thorough reminder of what’s legal–but we recommend enjoying your cannabis at home, having a designated driver to the apple orchard, and making sure you’re not obvious about being high (orchards are usually very family friendly).
For some great local apple orchards, check out Wiard’s Orchards, Alber Orchard and Freedom Winery, or Apple Charlie’s Orchard.
Cannabis themed jack-o’-lanterns.
Carving pumpkins is easy. You need a good firm pumpkin, a pumpkin saw or a steak knife (or some other serrated knife), a sharpie or marker to mark up the pumpkin, and a utensil to scoop out seeds. Easy cannabis-themed jack-o’-lantern ideas include just carving out a cannabis leaf, or making a simple face with cannabis leaf eyes.
Enhance your foliage walks.
The fall foliage in Washtenaw County can be breathtaking. Get cozy with a scarf and flannel and choose your hiking location, from Bird Hills to the Arb to Gallup Park. Being a little buzzed while surrounded by gorgeous fall colors is a breathtaking experience.
Cannabis often makes your senses much more alive, and helps you appreciate the sights, sounds, and textures of being in nature.
Remember what’s legal.
When in doubt, a good rule of thumb about the legality of cannabis use is–if it’s illegal with alcohol, it’s illegal with cannabis. It’s perfectly fine to have a drink at a restaurant and then walk around town, but it’s often not fine to be noticeably drunk in public (it’s illegal to cause a disturbance, endanger others, or not be able to take care of yourself).
Cannabis is more strictly regulated than alcohol. It’s not legal to consume cannabis on public property, in your car, or in a parking lot. It’s only legal on private property that isn’t within view of the public.
