World No Tobacco Day, established by the Member States of the World Health Organization in 1987, is observed on May 31.
It’s no secret that tobacco’s not the best for our bodies. But did you know that cannabis can actually help some nicotine users kick the nicotine habit?
CBD in particular can really help with nicotine addiction. We spoke with several budtenders in Washtenaw County about their favorite products to recommend for nicotine consumers, and why cannabis can help kick a nicotine habit.
Ryan at Lume Cannabis said the best product to recommend really depends on the method of consumption by the nicotine user.
“Cig smokers, I’d lean into something like our pre-rolls. We carry short pre-rolls we call ‘dog walkers’ — perfect for taking a dog around the block, but not too time committal!”
Vapes
If a nicotine consumer really likes nicotine vapes, Ryan would recommend one of Lume’s in-house pod vapes.
“They’re proprietary. They use a battery pod system, so you’re not wasting a battery every time. And it’s chemical free as far as solvents — you just get the THC or other cannabinoid byproduct.” They come with live resin or rosin and a variety of options.
Both nicotine and cannabis have negative health impacts; none are risk-free. But cannabis is generally considered healthier than nicotine, and is also generally considered less addictive. Cannabis also offers more therapeutic benefits than nicotine does, so the health pros can outweigh the health cons.
Edibles
A., a budtender at House of Dank, polled the budtenders and the general consensus was that they’d recommend edibles, as it would be much gentler on the lungs. Smoking cannabis, even if it’s a healthier substance than nicotine, can still be harmful for the respiratory system.
A. recommended House of Dank’s MKX edibles. “I love the deep sleep ones, because they really help me sleep,” A said. “But MKX carries so much variety.” Flavors include sour watermelon and mango.
Another House of Dank budtender recommended Muha Meds edibles. The THC is flavorless, the edibles are subtle, and the natural ingredients are gentle on the digestive system.
Replacing nicotine with cannabis can help kick a nicotine habit, as going cold turkey is rough for a lot of people. And cannabis’s relaxing, soothing effect can calm the jitters that many people get when quitting nicotine. Cananbis’ impact on the brain can even neurologically lessen the craving for nicotine as a person is trying to quit!

Depot Town Cannabis Co.’s budtender V. P. loves Tree Town Cannabis, especially since it’s a local Michigan brand.
V. P.’s fav flavor is their recover mango gummies. “The ration is 1 THC to 5 CBD, which is just perfect for general recovery, anxiety, after a long day of hard work — if someone is looking for joint relief, this is it. I broke my wrist a while ago and it still hurts, and Tree Town helps so much.” V. P. says any edible with a nice ratio of CBD to THC will help absorbency into our systems.
Bri at Bloom City Club had only good things to say about their Detroit edibles. “Their product overall is affordable, good quality, and I love the taste!”
Bri echoed the opinion that a lot of budtenders had — that if a nicotine user wanted to switch gears into cannabis, Bri would recommend trying edibles first.
The Clinic Cannabis’s budtender, J., loves their Banned edibles. “They’re high tier at 200mg, some have herbs in them; there’s chocolate-covered, wafers, gummies–a lot of options!” Having a product with so much variety, J. said, is great for someone who is looking to switch from nicotine to cannabis.
