How to Incorporate Cannabis in your Friendsgiving Feast

Try out these Thanksgiving weed activities and recipes at your celebration.

So, you want to throw a Friendsgiving with classic dishes — and you and all your invitees enjoy cannabis. This is your opportunity to throw a Danksgiving.

Cannabis’ role in Thanksgiving has become increasingly more popular. Which is no surprise, since an important part of cannabis culture is partaking and sharing. The holidays can be stressful for many people, and cannabis is touted by its consumers for helping them be able to relax and to enjoy being more social.

Just like having a drink at Thanksgiving dinner, cannabis’s legalization in Michigan has created an atmosphere of acceptance for many people regarding consumption. But also, just like having a drink, it is just as important to be moderate about consumption, and not drive under the influence.

So, how can you easily add cannabis into your classic Thanksgiving dishes?

Cannabutter is your best friend

Any Thanksgiving dish that pairs well with butter can be easily infused with weed. Some of our favorite dishes to make with cannabutter is spreading it on a croissant or bread roll, pairing it with garlic mashed potatoes, or melting it on top of roasted green beans or brussel sprouts.

You can also melt it over the turkey, put it in your stuffing, or infuse your gravy.
And let’s not forget the pies! Any pie that uses butter — pecan pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie — can be enhanced with cannabutter.

One of our favorite cannabutter recipes involves common kitchen supplies: a baking sheet, parchment paper, saucepan, and mesh strainer. You’ll need two sticks of unsalted butter, one cup of water and 1 cup ground cannabis (around 7-10 grams), decarboxylated. Ideally you’ll make your cannabutter the night before so it has time to solidify in the fridge.
It’s difficult to know how strong your cannabutter is, so we recommend you start with ¼ teaspoon on a small snack and observe its effects over the next 90 minutes. Then you’ll have a good idea of how strong your cannabutter is. Then, you can add it to anything you’d use regular butter for!

Make your own Thanksgiving beverages

Another easy way to enhance your Thanksgiving day is to use a tincture for beverages, such as a mulled cider, hot tea or punch. Local dispensaries often provide a variety of options, like this pick-me-up that promises a punch of energy, or this tincture that only contains CBD and no THC for those who want to avoid psychoactive effects.

Pre-made CBD drinks are popular at many Washtenaw county dispensaries! Tonic is one very popular brand with a variety of flavors like citrus lime, tropical punch and cucumber watermelon. Take the guessing game out of homemade cannabis drinks and just grab a case of drinks enjoy.

Add a cannabis-friendly activity to your Friendsgiving.

Many activities pair well with cannabis, like a nice walk after dinner, a movie or a craft. Even putting on a curated playlist after dinner can be greatly enjoyed while high!

So if your group of friends enjoys yoga, or a board game, or painting, feel empowered to plan an activity knowing that a gentle buzz can often make it more enjoyable.

Which of these ideas do you plan on enjoying with your friends this Thanksgiving?
