FOUND: The Michigan Theater Found Footage Horror Film Festival
October 10 & 11
Buy a festival pass for $55.00
Films in the series include:
Cure, 10/6, Michigan Theater
Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s breakthrough film announced the start of the J-horror craze almost 30 years ago in 1997. Spellbinding, hypnotic, and way ahead of its time, the film examines a string of seemingly unrelated murders by Detective Takabe who becomes obsessed with the cases and threatens his own sanity. A study in the nature of evil, this is a deeply unnerving film that could feel right at home in 2026 alongside movies like Obsession, Hokum, and Backrooms in tone and style. Highly recommended
(REC), 10/9, State Theatre
The original from 2007 is still the best. Fast paced and intense, this found footage follows a reporter and her cameraman who enter a dark apartment building with emergency workers only to be locked inside with a handful of residents. Michigan Theater has this listed for 11:59 pm! Buckle up for this midnight screening.
Lake Mungo, 10/10, Michigan Theater
This Australian found footage masterpiece from 2008 explores a family’s grief after their daughter Alice drowns while swimming. The family hires a parapsychologist to investigate inexplicable events in their home after her death. What is revealed is the double life she led that brings them back to Lake Mungo. This is a great drama/horror/mystery for those who love a film that burrows beneath your skin and doesn’t let go.
Paranormal Activity, 10/10, State Theater
The original that spawned a million sequels plays at 11:59 pm. A suburban couple try to document the strange activities in their home with video surveillance cameras.
The Blair Witch Project, 10/10, Michigan Theater
Celebrating the legacy of The Blair Witch Project, the festival features some of the best, while exploring the future of the genre. Dan Myrink, director, writer, and producer of the Blair Witch Project will be a special guest October 10 at 7pm for a screening and post film Q&A.
Cloverfield, 10/11, Michigan Theater
A group of New Yorkers flee for their lives at a going away party as a creature the size of a skyscraper descends on the city.
