Michigan/State Theaters are bursting with Halloween movies this October, so, if you’re a horror fan, check their site for a complete list. Highlights include:
Diabolique
Predating “Psycho” by five years, this 1955 classic thriller from France centers on two women, a principle and a teacher, at a prep school. They hatch a plot to murder the cruel, philandering principle’s husband who also had an affair with the teacher. It does for bathtubs what “Psycho” did for showers.
Playing Oct. 14 at the Michigan Theater.
It Follows
Filmed in and around Detroit, Michigan director, David Robert Mitchell, had a breakout hit with this deeply unsettling horror film about an entity that follows a young woman after a sexual encounter.
Playing Oct. 17 at the Michigan Theater.
Suspiria
One of the most beautiful, stylish horror films of all time. A psychedelic fairytale come to life, this is European horror that thrives on dreamy, barely-there narrative. Dario Argento’s masterpiece is essential viewing for anyone who loves horror.
Playing Oct. 21 at the Michigan Theater.
Carnivale of Souls
Rescued from obscurity, Herk Harvey’s only film contains a story that’s been done before, though rarely so beautiful and haunting. The style is Lynchian before Lynch.
Playing Oct. 30 at the Michigan Theater.
