Tanduri Korner is a Pakistani restaurant in downtown Ypsilanti that should be on everyone’s need-to-go shortlist.

The Lahori Chicken Karahi was the best thing that Current tried on the menu. It is a curry dish who, perhaps unsurprisingly, also comes with the best sauce tried on the menu.

It is absolutely worth your time to splurge on the vegetable samosas. They have just the right blend of spices and flaky crispy pastry that is good enough that you don’t care about the lack of dipping sauces.

The Punjabi Chicken Pulao is also extremely tender and delicious on its own. But the complex spicy flavors can get even better if you ask for a squeeze bottle full of their excellent mint chutney.

The Afghani mutton pulao is a nice blend of sweet and spicy. This rice dish does a good job of providing a palate on which the perfectly tender mutton rests in its gravy.

The two story building housing the restaurant is located at 6 South Washington Street – about halfway on the western side of the block between the Tap Room and the farmer’s market. The interior is airy and crisply appointed – lit mostly by the windows facing south onto the street.

Tanduri Korner a excellent lunch and dinner place, whose south Asian menu provides a nice compliment to the American traditional and Latin American offerings that make up much of downtown Ypsilanti’s culinary scene. It is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

Ypsi residents worried about increasing prices will at least have nothing to worry here, as Tanduri Korner delivers a high quality dining experience at quite reasonable rises. Their menu runs from $9.99 to $17.99 for entrees. Beverages run from $1.99 to $5.99.

Drinks-wise, Tanduri Korner has fountain drinks, but it is worth it to try the mint soda or the lassi mango.
