In an area already rich with excellent Mexican cuisine, Borimex stands out as a top contender in Ypsilanti. From flavorful burritos to comforting enchiladas, the family-run restaurant delivers an array of authentic Mexican dishes.
Burritos appear to be a decided strong suit. The Baria burrito for example is a lovely and filling meal with perfectly cooked meat.
The family run establishment is actually two businesses. The restaurant half is at the corner of the four business strip mall that they are housed in, letting lots of light in from the windows facing Carpenter Road. All of the menu options and notices are neatly handwritten in Spanish first and English second.
Another excellent dish is the enchilada dinner. The dinners come with Spanish rice and beans and the chicken was cooked with a nice down-home feel that didn’t go out of its way to overdo it on the spices.

One diner who ate at Borimex recently said, “The chicken was chopped, not ground, and the sauce was obviously homemade.”
The small grocery store is a little darker than the restaurant, and the aisles are narrower than a national chain’s would be. But it great place to find specific ingredients not commonly found in the United States.
Breakfast at Borimex run $9.99 to $11.99. Burritos go from $9.99 to $12.99. Dinners go from $11.99 to $21.99. Tacos range $3.50 to $4.29 each. Deserts cost anything from $2.08 to $7.99. A taquitos is either $2 or $2.50.
It is indeed a big problem if you have not made the trip down to the southern end of Carpenter Road to try Borimex out yet.
