By Taylor Viers – October 10, 2021
Starting on Monday, October 18 all Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) locations will be open from 10am-8pm daily, a 2 hour extension from their previous hours of 12-8pm. AADL will also resume early access to the Westgate Branch Library during Sweetwaters Café hours of 9am-5pm on Tuesday through Sunday, with the exception of the café being closed on Mondays.
Aside from the expanded business hours, October will bring a variety of service updates to AADL. More than 10,000 new streaming videos have been added to the library’s online collection including movies, documentaries, and videos such as HBO miniseries, Ken Burns documentaries, and popular series like Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr., and StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson. For a full list of titles available in the collection or to browse the catalog, visit https://aadl.org/streamingvideo.
AADL will also be bringing back their Express Shelves at each of their five libraries. The shelves will include popular, newly-released books and DVDs that can only be checked out in person. The items are non-renewables and have a shorter lending period than their regular collection because of the high demand. Books can be checked out for two weeks and DVDs can be checked out for one week.
Another exciting addition to AADL this month is the launch of a companion service to the Library’s book publishing imprint, Fifth Avenue Press, called “Fifth Avenue Studios” which looks to foster the creation of original audio content from local podcasters, musicians, and audio creators in the greater Ann Arbor area.
