A new program being offered by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra aims at teaching young students how to create their own music.
“MY Song” is a new workshop program being launched for the 2021-22 school year, aimed at students in grades 3-5. The program will see personal kids given to students of any skill level, hoping to bolster their understanding of music, as well as teaching artists from the Orchestra who will guide students and perform their creations.
The teaching artists will also record the students’ compositions so they may be shared with teachers and families.
A press release provided by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra stated that the program is being offered free of charge during its pilot phase, with priority being given to Title 1 schools. Though the current plan sees the program focusing on grades 3-5, the addition of more age levels is in development.
Currently, “MY Song” is being debuted as an after school program at Allen Elementary School in Ann Arbor.
