Ireland’s traditional music masters, Téada, at The Ark on August 14th

Irish band Téada to perform at The Ark in Ann Arbor on Sunday, August 14, at 7pm.

Ireland’s acoustic masters Téada return to The Ark on Sunday, August 14 at 7:30PM. Detroit Irish music virtuoso Seán Gavin, on flute and Irish uilleann pipes, will join the band for this special occasion.

The traditional Irish music band will play jigs, reels, and hornpipes from their new album “Coiscéim Coiligh – As the Days Brighten,” which features actor John C Reilly on one song. The Irish Echo calls the album “brilliant…perhaps their best” and The Irish Times claims it “a treasure trove of tunes…the urge to hear this music live is irrepressible.”

Téada (pronounced TAY-da) meaning strings in Irish, formed at the start of the new millenium, and were quickly hailed as “Best Traditional Newcomers” (Irish Music Magazine) and for “keeping the traditional flag flying at full mast” (Irish Times).

Now a band in their prime, they’ve toured the world including the Penang World Music Festival in Malaysia, Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe, and Edmonton Folk Festival in Canada.

For their sixth album Téada called upon actor and musician John C Reilly (HBO’s “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), this year’s International Guest of Honour at Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, whom they’d met while he was in Ireland promoting a movie. His duet on the humorous 19th-century ballad ‘Eileen Óg ‘ with legendary Irish singer Séamus Begley has received international airplay.

“Reilly and Begley hit it off!” says Téada fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada. “Their song blends John C’s rich theatrical vocal talents along with Séamus’s unique sensitivity and nuance.” The song is available as a free download at the band’s website: https://teada.com/.

Along with Seán Gavin (son of noted Clare-born fiddle player Mick Gavin and a member of the band Bua), Mac Diarmada will be joined at The Ark by Téada band members Paul Finn (accordion) and Seán Mc Elwain (guitar).

Téada‘s concert on Sunday August 14, 2022 at 7:30pm will take place at The Ark, located at 316 S Main St Ann Arbor, MI. Tickets are $20 and available at https://www.theark.org or calling (734) 761-1818.
