A Curious Kitchen’s Local Virtual Cooking Benefit for Ukraine

Two local culinary teachers offer a virtual class to fundraise for World Central Kitchen

A Curious Kitchen will be hosting a virtual culinary class to benefit Ukraine. The event will take place on May 15th and all proceeds will benefit the World Central Kitchen.

A curious Kitchen was founded by Nicole Pichan Seals, formerly of Due Venti in Clawson, MI, and Jyl Barnett Nolan, an educator from Dexter Community Schools.

The pair began the program in March 2021 as a way to share their love for cooking and continue teaching others virtually, to ease the stress of the pandemic. Since the foundation, the class has reached hundreds of families from all over the states with after school classes, weekend workshops, and even birthday parties all over the world.

Nolan says, “It was so much fun to cook in people’s kitchens with them. We feel honored to have been a part of so many people’s lives, learning right alongside them.”

Over the past year, A Curious Kitchen has transitioned into offering some in-person classes, but still maintains their live virtual events for anyone who would like to join them. “We know many people are sick of zoom meetings, but we still see how rewarding these virtual classes can be,” said Seals. “It gives chefs of all ages the chance to really learn their own equipment, get a feel for their cooking space, and challenge themselves in an environment that they can grow in.”

A Curious Kitchen will be hosting a live virtual cooking benefit for World Central Kitchen on Sunday, May 15 th from 2-3pm. The cost is $25/family and all the proceeds

benefit World Central Kitchen, an international non-profit started by chef José Andrés that brings food and humanitarian relief to communities experiencing war and natural disasters. Participants will learn how to make Halusky, a traditional Ukrainian dumpling similar to gnocchi. Students and families will learn the significance of foods like Halushki to the Ukrainian people, and prepare the dish with all the accompaniments.

Booking is available here. For more information on upcoming events and programs, visit A Curious Kitchen’s website or email them at ourcuriouskitchen@gmail.com.
