Ann Arbor Nonprofit Pilar’s Foundation

Given 501c-3 Status to Continue Raising Funds for Disaster Relief Programs

Over the last 20 years, Pilar’s Foundation has worked to celebrate and connect the local Washtenaw County community, sponsoring events to bring people together. They raise funds and awareness for disaster relief programs across the country and have contributed to organizations that provide services to those in need, both locally and globally.

Pilar’s Organization recently received their official 501c3 status and is now recognized by the IRS as a charitable non-profit organization. All donations to support their mission will now qualify as tax-exempt. This is an important milestone for the organization and fuels their drive to continue their work and make a difference in not only our community, but across the world..

With their new status, they can also partner with similar organizations who share the Pilar’s Foundation mission and expand their efforts to make an even bigger impact.

Sylvia Nolasco-Rivers is the founder and president of the Pilar’s Foundation. She began the organization soon after the 2001 El Salvador Earthquake. Since then, they have donated to dozens of disaster relief efforts and raised tens of thousands of dollars to worthy causes.

Pilar’s Foundation’s first event as an official charitable non-profit organization is planned for Sunday March 27th at 3pm-6pm. The event honors and supports Local Afghan Refugee Families in Ann Arbor and will raise funds for the Jewish Family Services of

Washtenaw County’s refugee family program.

More information on the event can be found HERE, which includes a tamale meal pick-up at Zion Lutheran Church (1501 West Liberty St., Ann Arbor) and families can order ahead to have a meal ready for them. Tickets for this event can be purchased online.
