The United Way of Washtenaw County is hosting its annual Power of the Purse event on March 9th to celebrate women in the community.
The event is organized and sponsored by the UWWC’s affinity group, Women United. Women United has raised over $400,000 to help financially support the success of women in Washtenaw County.
At this event they will be honoring the UWWC’s Woman of the Year. This year the award is being presented to Jimena Loveluck, Health Officer for the Washtenaw County Health Department.
Loveluck is being recognized for her management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Washtenaw County. “Jimena Loveluck exemplifies what the Power of the Purse initiative is about: women taking action to address community issues,” said Pam Smith, President of the United Way of Washtenaw County, and member of the Power of the Purse committee. “Jimena displayed exemplary leadership during the pandemic and continues to go above and beyond every day to make sure our community has access to vaccines, current information, testing, masks or personal protective equipment (PPE), and appropriate medical care.”
The event will be completely virtual and will feature a live purse auction, raffle and special guest speakers along with the Woman of the Year ceremony.
Nicole Kontyko, the 2022 event chair, says “It is my honor to serve the women of this community as the Chairwoman of the Power of the Purse Committee. The community impact of this event helps women to achieve their goals of returning to school, employment or financial stability. The investment that we make will generate a difference in our community for generations to come.”
Purse donations are being accepted for the auction. To donate, contact Ebony Robinson at erobinson@uwwashtenaw.org.

All proceeds support financial stability programs for women in Washtenaw County.
