Two graduates from the University of Michigan have reinvested in the Ann Arbor community by acquiring two hotels in the Ann Arbor area near the university.
Chicago-based hotel investment and management company Arbor Lodging Partners was started by Vamsi Bonthala and Sheenal Patel, two proud U-M alumni. As they celebrate their 15th anniversary at Arbor Lodging, they are very excited about the recent developments in the Ann Arbor area.
Arbor Lodging Management CEO Sheenal Patel says, “When Vamsi and I met, we had no idea that we would one day start a business together. We were friends first, but later that friendship created the foundation of our business when we realized that we also shared similar views on how to identify opportunity, create value, and, most importantly, build a great team.”
Arbor Lodging has built a substantial portfolio since its creation with 1000+ employees nationwide, 15 partnered brands, 36 owned hotels, 4500+ rooms under management and a 33% average annual growth rate since 2014.
The pair has recently acquired the Hilton Garden Inn Ann Arbor and the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Ann Arbor. The Hilton Garden Inn features 130 rooms and suites, access to the Garden Grille and Bar and is located adjacent to Briarwood Mall and within minutes of Main Street for shopping. TownPlace Suites offers 97 rooms and suites, a full gym and indoor pool, and the same easy access to downtown Ann Arbor attractions. Both locations are also conveniently near the University and highway.
“Vamsi and I wore multiple hats, took chances, and made our share of mistakes, but we always kept moving forward and reflected on our experiences to get better – a process that is still part of the way we do things at Arbor Lodging Management.” says Patel, reflecting on their early years as friends and business partners. Sheena and Vamsi are both proud to be reinvesting in the Ann Arbor community and honoring the upbringing they had together.
