Drop-in Fiber Arts at Spun

Get your stitch on at Spun’s drop-in events

Spun is a family-owned fiber arts store in Kerrytown that hosts drop-in events for stitchers of all kinds, from knitting to crochet to needlepoint. Everyone is welcome at these social gatherings and they serve as a great place for beginners to get some tips. Note, it’s not a class to learn fiber arts. No registration or fee required, just bring whatever project you’re working on!

When: Monday-Thursday 6-8pm, or Sunday 1-3pm

Collage and Chill at Dzanc House

Enjoy a relaxing evening of collage at Dzanc House

An extension of Dzanc Books, Dzanc House is a home for literacy and cultural arts programming of all ages. Collage and Chill is one of their free events, and it’s the perfect place to go relax and craft after a long day. Materials are provided, and a guide is there with the best tips and tricks if you get stuck. If collage isn’t your thing, check out some of their other workshops, gallery openings, and more.

When: Typically the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 6-8pm, but check their events calendar to stay up to date

Bløm Book Club at Bløm Meadworks

Our Community Reads is a grassroots initiative in Ypsilanti based on the idea that “a community that reads together grows together.” For readers who want to enjoy their own book, this chapter of the global organization, Silent Book Club, is a great fit. Bring whatever book you’re currently working on, as well as anything like snacks or blankets to make yourself comfortable. Time is allotted before and after reading for social engagement, and the events are free.

Ultimate Frisbee Pickup Games with HAC Ultimate Frisbee

HAC Ultimate hosts pickup games rain, snow, or shine

HAC Ultimate Frisbee hosts weekly pickup games, no matter the weather. Competition is fun and friendly, however some experience is encouraged. Games are free to join!

Social Dances with Swing Ann Arbor

Join Swing Ann Arbor for their free beginner lessons, their social dances, or both!

Swing Ann Arbor offers fun social dances for swing dancers of all experience levels. You can attend their social dances for $5, but if you attend their free beginner lesson the hour beforehand, the social dance is also free! No registration is required for either, and you don’t need a partner to attend.

When: Wednesday, beginner lesson 6:30-7:30pm, social dance 7:30-9:30pm

Magic the Gathering with Sylvan Factory

Enjoy a game of Magic the Gathering at Sylan Factory

Sylvan Factory hosts Magic the Gathering: Casual Commander for everyone, although they recommend you have at least some familiarity with the rules ahead of time. You can bring your own deck or purchase one there, and join with no fee or registration. Be sure to check out Sylvan Factory’s calendar, as they also host other great events like Open Board Game nights.
