incorporates the viewer and twists the room into an almost dreamlike, man-made mirage.

Summer starts early

America’s greatest summer celebration of art and entertainment, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, opens early this year, with Bonnie Raitt at Hill Auditorium on Friday, May 25. This is the 31st incarnation of the Fest and somehow it keeps getting better, thanks to Festival Director extraordinaire, maestro-with-the-magic-touch, Robb Wolfe.

Be a fool

The most free-wheeling and fun display of moving art of the year, Festifools brings a lighthearted European tradition to Main Street Ann Arbor. On April 1, the Festifools procession of papier-mâché forms one of the most unique and quirky parades in the entire nation.

Performance art prodigy in our midst

My readers and fans know that I’m a sucker for performance art. For me it’s the combination of live performance and the ephemeral, no-two-shows-the-same aesthetic, the closest we come now to what used to be called a “happening.” It’s my favorite part of our annual Ann Arbor Summerfest.
