As the grey sticks of a bland winter begin to flourish into the budding green of spring, the Washtenaw County area is alive and people are jogging outdoors instead of on a treadmill. Experience shopping and interacting with the community of southeast Michigan as local growers and entertainers come together to celebrate good food and good fun.

The Cobblestone Farm Market is an earth-friendly, non-profit organization that focuses on strengthening community and increasing local food accessibility, security and quality. A project of the Cobblestone Farm Association, the market was started in the spring of 2012 by a group of parents, farmers, gardeners, students, teachers, radical homemakers, naturalists, neighbors and friends to provide a safe community space that allows individuals and families from diverse backgrounds to connect over healthy food, fun activities, live music and cooking demonstrations. Find natural beauty products, handmade stationery and other gifts, catch a massage and enjoy lunch from Hut-K Chaats or Silvio’s.

 

Ypsilanti Farmers Market Place

For over ten years Growing Hope has hosted a farmers market in downtown Ypsilanti on Tuesdays. In 2015 they began work on an indoor-outdoor space in order to make healthy food and economic opportunities more accessible year-round. The 2016 season presents a new opportunity for residents to celebrate good food and community life, and to see how the market has grown.

Since its beginnings in 2007, The Bushel Basket Market has been providing a variety of local products and produce in a pleasant, easily accessible manner in order to encourage more frequent and wider consumption of healthy foods in Chelsea and surrounding communities. 18 full season vendors have joined the market this year, offering everything from baked goods to birdhouses, syrup, grass-fed beef, lamb and pork, herbal soaps, seasonal fruits and veggies.

Now entering its 97th season, the Ann Arbor Farmers Market is proud to bring farm-fresh produce to the community every week of the year. Founded in 2005 by a group of passionate Ann Arbor volunteers, The Westside Farmers’ Market is dedicated to putting great, local food into the hands of as many residents as possible. 30 to 40 vendors each week interact directly with their consumers to enrich the local food economy.

The Pittsfield Township Farmers Market is a weekly summer market that features local growers, food producers and artisans. Neighbors can gather and enjoy live music and take in a cooking demonstration to learn how to prepare seasonal produce. New this year, a Master Gardener will be on site monthly with seasonal information about lawn and garden questions. Kids can enjoy a weekly “I SPY” activity and craft plus music by Kevin Devine, Ms. Carissa and tumbling with Gym America on select dates. Save some time for a walk through Prairie Park and grab dinner from Top Dog Hot Dogs.

For 25 years the Chelsea Farmers Market has brought high-quality food and artisan products to the Chelsea community. This season promises several new vendors along with the return of musical entertainment and new events to engage the visitor, both young and old.
